About Us Rhode Island Campaign for Informed Marijuana PolicyWe are a grassroots organization commited to reforming Rhode Island's marijuana laws. We believe that the state is wasting limited resources by enforcing marijuana prohibition. With your help, we're working to convince our legislators to support change. Our mission is to draw attention to the high costs and unintended consequences of marijuana prohibition and to educate the public and lawmakers about alternative policies that have been tested in other states and nations. Our conclusions are based upon cost-benefit analyses and thorough research. We were founded in August 2009 by current and former members of Students for Sensible Drug Policy. During the 2010 legislative session, we were supported by a grant from the Marijuana Policy Project. We organized a grassroots coalition in favor of marijuana policy reform, and worked with legislators and lobbyists to support two important pieces of legislation: decriminalization bill H7317 and tax and regulate bill H7838.There were enough supporters of decriminalization in the State House even to override a veto, but due to unfounded election concerns, leadership prevented a vote. We came so close in 2010 - we couldn't be more confident that Rhode Island will finally decriminalize marijuana during the 2011 legislative session. Join our coalition to help make it happen! Staff
